Conclusion:

The trends of virtual teams are increasing day by day. So, we are looking forward to see many more virtual teams in future. As already discussed, trust and credibility are major factors for the success of virtual teams. According to Nydegger and Nydegger, “For virtual teams to succeed, commitment for virtual work must start at the top of the organization and touch and include all members and all level of organization” (Nydegger & Nydegger, 2010). So, commitment is one of the major factor that helps in running the team smoothly. There are always two sides of a coin. There are many advantages as well as disadvantages of virtual teams. But, with the team efforts and unity, we can come over the drawbacks and we can form very successful virtual teams.

CHALLENGES FACED BY VIRTUAL TEAMS:

Cultural Differences:

As on the one side cultural diversity can prove beneficial to find a particular solution, these cultural differences can also become the reason for conflicts. This is because people from different cultures can have different believes and thoughts. The people from different communities have different leadership styles which can’t seem satisfactory to many of the team members.

Different time zones:

As virtual team members can be present at the different parts of the world, they can face a major problem of time scheduling. For example, the picture shows the different time zone of New York, London, and Tokyo. So, it becomes difficult for the team members to find a suitable time for their meeting.

Communication problems:

There are many problems to communicate within the virtual teams. Firstly, there is absence of non-verbal clues. So, it is only the voice of a person that works. Secondly, sometimes people don’t try to participate as much as they should. Therefore, it generates a negative atmosphere in the team. In addition to this, there is less time to build up relationships within the team which can be a cause of raising conflicts among the team members.
